Recent research have shown that adults who play video games achieve higher levels of happiness and, in some cases, relaxation as a result of the games.
Beyond scientific support for video games and happiness, here are 10 reasons why it makes sense that adults who play video games are happier than adults who don’t.
They train the brain
For starters, recent studies by several well-known scientific and research organizations have shown that video games can help improve the quality of life for people with disabilities and the mentally ill.

Characteristics of brain research in video games
To determine how video games affect the brain, the scientists selected two groups of adults. The first team played Super Mario 64 for 30 minutes a day for two months. The second team did not play video games at all. The scientists used magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to measure the groups’ brain size before the study began, and then again after a two-month period.
The results confirmed previous findings: that there are differences in the brain structure of the players and that when video games are played there is a “direct link between video games and increased brain volume.”
Simone Kühn, principal investigator at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development Center for Life Expectancy Psychology, led the study. She argues: “While previous research has shown differences in the brain structure of gamers, the current research shows that certain areas of the brain can be trained using video games.”
