Reasons Adults Who Play Video Games Are Happier

By

Recent research have shown that adults who play video games achieve higher levels of happiness and, in some cases, relaxation as a result of the games.

Beyond scientific support for video games and happiness, here are 10 reasons why it makes sense that adults who play video games are happier than adults who don’t.

They train the brain

For starters, recent studies by several well-known scientific and research organizations have shown that video games can help improve the quality of life for people with disabilities and the mentally ill.

A pivotal study from the Max Planck Institute for Human Development and the Charite Medical University at St. Hedwig-Crankenhaus in Berlin, Germany, found that video playback increases gray matter (primarily the size of your brain) and helps improve the learned and learned skills. …

In simple terms, video games directly affect the areas of the brain responsible for memory, spatial orientation, organization of information, and fine motor skills.

Research also supports the claim that, like exercise, playing games for just 30 minutes a day can improve your life.

Characteristics of brain research in video games

To determine how video games affect the brain, the scientists selected two groups of adults. The first team played Super Mario 64 for 30 minutes a day for two months. The second team did not play video games at all. The scientists used magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to measure the groups’ brain size before the study began, and then again after a two-month period.

The results confirmed previous findings: that there are differences in the brain structure of the players and that when video games are played there is a “direct link between video games and increased brain volume.”

Simone Kühn, principal investigator at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development Center for Life Expectancy Psychology, led the study. She argues: “While previous research has shown differences in the brain structure of gamers, the current research shows that certain areas of the brain can be trained using video games.”

1. They are more connected to their inner child.

Few adults can do anything fun after work and family life, which makes it pretty clear why so many American adults are depressed and bored.

However, unlike adults who don’t play video games, adults who play games have the ability to act playfully on a daily basis, much like many of us did when we were younger. This stronger connection with your inner child can help you be happier and enjoy life more fully.

2. They have an easy way out of the stresses of life.

As we get older, we constantly face more pressures in life. Now we have student loans to pay off, jobs to be successful at, and bills to pay. I don’t know about you, it often seems to me that all these adult things are overrated.

Video games are a best way to relieve the stress of your daily worries and do what you love just for fun.

3. They are exposed to more creativity and imagination.

Anyone who has played a video game can attest that they are more creative with games.

Whether it’s a practical video game like Call of Duty or an imaginative video game like World of Warcraft, using your imagination to immerse yourself in the mindset of your character and their world is a highly stimulating and creative exercise for your brain.

4. They immediately have something to connect with other people.

Have you ever gone to a party and had nothing to do with the people around you? Well, this is another problem that video games solve. More than 50% of the US adult population plays video games, and 81% of adults ages 18-29 are gamers. Statistically, at least one of these players must be at the same party as you. When you find it, you immediately have something in common.

5. They have a more balanced view of life.

Another reason adults who play are happier is because they have a more balanced outlook on life.
Instead of being completely absorbed in work and billing, they can spend some of their time on their adult responsibilities and some of their time playing games for fun!

6. They have the best hand-eye coordination.

It is scientifically proven that people who play video games have better spatial coordination and fine motor skills than those who do not. Not only will it make you more coordinated in your daily life, it can also help you drive better, maintain your eyesight, and make you smarter.

7. You can include your spouse / friends on your own time.

If your spouse or best friend is the type of person who “needs time to myself,” they may be familiar with the feelings of boredom or loneliness that can accompany being left behind.

However, if the “me” time for your spouse or friend is on the Xbox or PS4, you can also join in their relaxation time! (Or at least observe). It can help strengthen your relationship while allowing your loved ones to do what they love.

8. They always have object to look forward to.

Another way to make adults happier is to give them what they expect.

Whether you want to take it to the next level in the latest version of Super Mario or anticipate the next generation of consoles, gamers always have something to look forward to and admire. This creates life more interesting and exciting, even if only to a small extent.

9. They can turn exercise into play.

Going to the gym is excellent, but it can get a bit monotonous over time. With the advent of so many motion-focused gaming devices like Wii and Kinnect, gamers have the opportunity to stay fit and healthy while playing a psyche-stimulating video game.

And if you think video games aren’t considered exercises, try Fruit Ninja without breaking a sweat.

10. They can turn boring situations into fun.

Finally, adults who play video games are happier because they see every waiting room and checkout as an opportunity to level up.

I don’t mind sitting in the waiting room at the doctor’s office if I have DS with me, and I know many adults who feel the same way. Instead of getting upset and angry that the meeting is taking longer than expected, you can enjoy a little extra playtime and get on with your day.
